Message from the National LPA office about LPA events:
Covid-19 and LPA Events
LPA's primary concern has always been and will continue to be the health and safety of our members. As concerns over Covid-19 continue to grow, we recognize that many of our members have respiratory or other underlying medical concerns that put them at a higher risk for infection. Like other organizations, we have a social responsibility to do our part to reduce the rate of infection. However, LPA also has an added responsibility to the health concerns of our members. Therefore, after careful deliberation, LPA's Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel all LPA sanctioned events immediately through May 31, 2020. This includes all national, regional and chapter events.
We realize there are many questions as a result of this decision, and we ask for your patience as our staff and board members work directly with District Directors and chapter officers to determine the next steps. There are many factors to be considered that are unique to each situation regarding hotel cancellations, possible rescheduling, registration cancellations, etc. We are already working with those Regionals scheduled within the next few weeks, and will continue to work with all to finalize a plan for each event. Further communication will be made within the next week to 10 days, directly to registered attendees at each event. Please know that this decision did not come easily, but we feel it is the right decision for our members.
You may be wondering about events scheduled after May 31, including but not limited to our National Conference in Austin. Please be assured that we are monitoring the situation very closely. Current expectations are that the U.S. impact should crest in March & April, potentially tapering off thereafter. However, given the nature of so many unknowns about this virus, we will continue to monitor the progress, and may need to make additional recommendations for events beyond May. Given our National Conference is not until July, we are optimistic, while proceeding cautiously, that we will be able to have the great conference being planned. As we continue to monitor the impact of the spread of Covid-19, we will continue to follow the recommendation of the CDC and other health organizations, in order to make our decisions in the best interest of our members and their health. We will communicate any further decisions in a timely fashion.
In the meantime, please stay safe and take precautionary measures to ensure good health. We care about you all.
