Chapter 4
District 12

Little People of America (LPA) is a nonprofit organization that provides support and information to people of short stature and to their families. The organization was created in 1957 by Billy Barty and friends.

The San Francisco Bay Area Chapter (SFBAC) was established in 1962. We are a group of families, friends, acquaintances, and professionals who are connected by our experience with short stature.

You are welcome to contact us for more information, for support, or to join with everyone at the local activities we hold throughout the year.

We hope you will find this site useful. Here you will find information about social events, contacts for more information about dwarfism, local resources, and how you can participate with us. Enjoy!

Our Mission
LPA is dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with dwarfism throughout their lives while celebrating with great pride Little People’s contribution to social diversity. LPA strives to bring solutions and global awareness to the prominent issues affecting individuals of short stature and their families.
An Author in Our Midst!

The Magical Mask is an illustrated book for children about the use of CPAP (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure) mask. The new storybook is based on a story by Keren Stronach, who originally wrote a story called The Magic Mask for her daughter, Talia, who was diagnosed with sleep apnea at the age of two. The story had an immediate effect on Talia, who requested that the story be read to her several times before agreeing to wear her mask.

After speaking to other parents who had trouble helping their kids adjust to therapy, Keren wanted to write a story that would help children feel more comfortable about wearing a mask. Keren hopes that the story will help to ease the process of introducing the mask to young children.

Copies of the book are available for free by calling ResMed: 1-800-424-0737 option 1. Thanks to Keren and ResMed, the story (illustrated by William Ross) is also available online.

D12 Spring Regional Conference
6-8 April 2018
Friday - Sunday
Sacramento, CA

What better place to hold our 2018 Tri-State Spring Regional Conference than walking distance to the 28-acre National Historic Landmark District of Old Sacramento? Sandwiched between the brand-new Golden 1 Center Arena and the Sacramento River, the Holiday Inn Downtown – Arena Hotel is the perfect place to host 200+ LPA friends, family, and newcomers! The newly renovated hotel has offered our conference members a room rate of just $109/night and is a short drive from Sacramento International Airport, off Highway 5 in our State Capitol.

Along with the ever-popular Parents Workshop and other workshops, genetics counselors will host the medical panel and our former DAAA President will host boccia and swim clinic. Plus, we’ve banded some of the finest teachers in our district to host the Kids Room for activities to occupy the children while the parents enjoy the conference workshops that we've designed to educate, familiarize, network, and explore!

Our Friday Night Welcome Reception will allow our members to grab a beverage and mingle while the kids relax for Movie Night in the kids room. After the reception, conference attendees are invited to stroll for dining and dessert in Old Sacramento or take a ride-share to Midtown, where the nightlife is EXTREMELY popular.

Saturday morning we’re hosting a tween/teen scavenger hunt and in the afternoon we’ve set aside some time for families to enjoy themselves following the workshops! There will be a little time to catch your breath and dress to kill before we launch our marquee event, the Evening Banquet Dinner and Dance.

Sunday morning we wrap our conference with the General Assembly Meeting, featuring the District Directors, District Board, and LPA Regional Leadership.

With the National Conference on the East Coast in 2018, many families on the West Coast may decide to stay closer to home. If that includes you, why not come join us this April 6th, 7th, and 8th? SEE YOU THERE!!

Registration packets will be mailed in February.

Please let me know if you'd like to volunteer to help us make this an amazing weekend!

Jaime Murphy
President of the SJVC of LPA
